CGPA Proportional Scale Calculator

Rescale a CGPA to a 4-point reference, or back, using simple proportions. This arithmetic does not establish equivalent academic performance or an application GPA.

This calculator applies proportional arithmetic, not an institution’s grade conversion policy. See the CGPA reporting guide for application instructions.

Calculation Guide

What proportional rescaling means

This tool divides a value by its scale maximum and multiplies by the destination maximum. It compares positions on numeric scales only; it does not establish equivalent academic performance.

CGPA systems can differ in pass marks, grade bands and course inclusion. Use the receiving institution’s documented method for applications, or report the original result when requested.

How to use the calculator

  1. 1

    Pick your scale

Choose the maximum of your original scale: 10, 7, 5 or 4 points.

  2. 2

    Enter a value

The same proportional arithmetic works in either direction.

  3. 3

    Check reporting instructions

If an application requests conversion without supplying a method, ask the recipient. Do not assume this reference value is accepted.

GPA formula

4-point reference = CGPA / scale maximum x 4

This is a numeric rescaling, not an official GPA conversion or credential evaluation.

Proportional arithmetic example

For an input of 8.5 on a 10-point scale:

Rescaling 8.5 out of 10
StepValue
Input8.5 / 10
Fraction of maximum0.85
4-point reference0.85 x 4 = 3.4

The proportional reference is 3.4. This does not establish a US GPA of 3.4.

Before reporting a result

  • Keep the original transcript grade, scale and institution visible.
  • Do not chain a generic percentage formula with this rescaling to create an application GPA.
  • Even two 4-point systems may use different grades and inclusion rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is CGPA divided by 10 and multiplied by 4 official?

No. It only rescales a number. It does not reproduce institution-specific grade conversion tables.

Should I put this reference value on my application?

Only use a conversion method explicitly specified or accepted by the recipient. Otherwise report the original result or ask for instructions.

Can I reverse the calculation?

Yes. The reverse formula is reference value divided by 4 times the selected scale maximum. It does not recover an original transcript CGPA.
